This site is our tribute to Pedatha, a space to pay tribute to the culinary wisdom of those who have touched our lives in a special way.

We are two friends from Rajasthan and Gujarat in North India, but Chennaiites at heart. If you want to know who we are and what we do, visit us at PRITYA. Certain strange and poignant coincidences in life brought us into contact with Pedatha and inspired by her culinary passion, we started collecting her recipes. As a result, “Cooking at Home with Pedatha” was born.

Pedatha always said, “Every grandmother is a good cook. There is nothing special about my recipes; they are just simple home cooked meals.” Our deepest culinary nostalgia is invariably associated with ‘home’. Often when someone speaks about the food they really love or miss, they connect it to the person who cooked those delicious meals. Food is about ingredients and the process of cooking, but much more, it is about affection, warmth and love.
Ever since “Cooking at home with Pedatha” came into existence, one constant response we have received is that so many wish to document recipes, so many want to hold on to precious family recipes, so many know that someone in their home or families whose recipes they wish to carry forever.
When Pedatha left us, we created this site as a space for keeping her belief alive that every grandma, many grandpas out there cook fabulous meals. So www.pedatha.com is a space for tradition, for tribute, for culinary inheritances, for a reliving of shared moments of affection and nurture.

Your words about Pedatha makes me think about my grandmother who passed away recently. Would love to share some of her tips and recipes here. Thank you for giving us an opportunity to document those gems.
You are welcome Madhuram. We look forward to seeing your gems and precious posts
. Yes, it is a great way to document them before they fade into oblivion.
hi prathiba n jigyasa,
First of all i m so happy to c ur event jihva for love. love can do so many wonders in one’s life. Unfortunately i could not participate in this event as i saw it very late. It would have been very apt if i took part in this event as my blog is dedicated to my Paati who passed away last year. I learnt all the cooking i know from her. It has been a very sad time for my family losing her as she was our pillar of strength to us! I m sure everyone who has lost someone dear in their lives would feel the same.
Kudos to u both for bringing up such a fantastic event and was awed to see so many people writing such wonderful things about their beloved ones.
Keep up the good work!
Best regards,
Veda
Thank you for dropping by my (then) empty blog and to write a very nice comment.
I’ve always been very enticed by your beautiful country and its rich culture (and food, of course). Would very much love to visit it one day (it’s on my must-visit list).
Your blog is a delight to read. Keep up the good work! =)
Do you only deal with South Indian Recipes or are also interested in other cuisines heirloom recipes?
Hi Pratibha,
Thanks for your lovely comments on my blog. I have enjoyed reading your blog and recipes and moreover I am happy to know that you too are from Chennai.
Some of the posts on your blog are indeed touching. Since Senior care is one of my passions, I find this blog all the more inspiring.
I intend to put an ad for your blog on my website. Do let me know if you have any banners/ widgets that will help.
Cheers!
Dear Ishrath, thank you for your warm words. Oh so u too from Chennai? Super! Dont know about banner / widgets

Dear Pratibha and Jigyasa,
Thank you for showing us the importance of traditional recipes and teaching us to value the recipes of our grandmothers and mothers. It also reminds us that it is worthwhile to document these recipes for the fast paced future generations so that we can preseve our rich traditional knowledge and wisdom.
Best regards,
Aruna
